mads
We are going to Samui for a little holiday and I already booked the resort. Now I just checked online for tickets and it seems the only option is bangkok air and they charge 14.000 Baht roundtrip tickets for 2 people, is it me or is it just way overpriced ? We can fly to Bali or Hong kong cheaper. If that's the only option I strongly consider taking the car and drive to surat thanni and take the ferry. Is there safe parking in surat thanni for your car ? Would it be cheaper to fly to surat thanni and take the ferry ? Basically I'm just looking for cheaper options than 14k for a flight that takes an hour or so. Any help is appreciated
Lite Beer
Air Asia to Surat Airport. A bus waits at the airport and takes you to the ferry. Or the train to Surat where a bus takes you to the ferry.

Lite Beer
Overnight sleeper train. Morning/ Mid day flights. The bus waits for trains and flights. The fare is around 380 baht to the ferry port at Donsak. Ticket includes the ferry. You can always drive to Donsak and take your car across on the ferry. You can even get the bus to Samui from Bangkok.

Samuian
Is there safe parking in surat thanni for your car ? You can bring it via the ferry link to Samui... and use it on the island for sightseeing, saves you a lot of money and hussle...!! Info here If you decide to come by train = don't buy the ferry ticket at Hua Lampong trainstation, which is offered there! It's the "old" Songserm Company, very bad service and much waste of time... if so, take the Seatran Service on arrival at Surat Train Station! It's going to be a long day! Road to Don Muang/Plane to Nakhon/Road to Donsak/Boat to Samui/Road to hotel. Assuming that even if all the connections work out you can write off most of the day in travelling. It really boils down to a balance of Bkk Air expense and travel time of 1 hour against a gruelling trip which might take the edge off the holiday; plus the enormous possibility that one of the links in the travel chain will go belly up. OOOOOPS ! the flight goes to NST ? well, I just checked the website again and there is indeed not the smallest hint where your flight actually touches down.... only the final destination "Samui" or "Koh Phangan" is mentioned. but you are right, flight DD 7804 is indeed the flight to NST...... I am sure not many people are aware of this or would even think about the possibility that the flight goes to NST.... thanks for clarifying this, Poorsucker . Slip
Just get the overnight train to Chumporn and pick up the cat to the islands. Cheap for the train (800b? I can't remember), you can have a few beers or some food, get your head down early, and get some sleep. You have to hang about for a couple of hours in the early am for the ferry, then away you go. koheesti
Last month I flew RT to Bahrain from Dubai for $250 (8000 baht) and it's about a 70 minute flight. But around here, $250 doesn't go nearly as far as in Thailand.

It appears to be the option of many others too by the looks of the farang numbers on the island.

Going back to the original post that 14000Baht return for 2 seems excessive, I note that as an example a similar domestic fare in UK for the same distance i.e. London to Edinburgh return starts at around 16000 Baht. 14K seems reasonable. It all depends on the value you place on your time I suppose. Ready for incoming!
