Divorce

Featured Replies

It hasn’t worked out for us and we both agree to a no hassle, straight forward divorce. We also both agree on wanting it done ASAP. To do it in the UK is time consuming and costly so Thailand seems the best bet, we were married in Bangrak, Bangkok. Do we have to go back to the same place to divorce or can we go to any office for it?

There are no kids, property or anything else involved so it should be straight forward. Also does anyone know the procedure involved?

Thanks guys.

In thailand when you have an uncontested divorce, you simply go to the Amphurs office where you were originally married and simply sign a paper, pay some money and poof you are divorced.

That's assuming you were married in thailand and of course this isnt recognized by your home country unless your registered your thai marriage via your embassy.

I got married in bangkok..and got divorced in the local amphur office in issan ..as long as your x wife to be is more than happy with getting divorced .

Things should be straight forward .in you go sign a few forms then its a copy for her and a copy for you then you are divorced rolleyes.gif

Total cost was 40 baht ...whistling.gif

But if on the second hand she is not happy which most of them are ,Then she might want a few baht for signing papers for the divorce etc.

As has been sad, you can divorce at any amphur. But make sure you both bring the marriage certificates with you and have two witnesses if the amphur won't provide them. For the rest it is simply singing the register and getting the divorce certificates, at the same time you can enter any agreement regarding assets or children you want to make.

What documents do we need? I suppose my PP. her ID card and both certificates, anything else?

For what documents are needed and an idea of the procedure take a look at my post #2 in this thread.

For an idea of what is written on the divorce agreement look at my post #2 in this thread.

Thanks Farma, thats all very helpful, and thank you to all the other posters.

Just one little point I think worth adding.

To prevent any hiccups during the process ensure your wife has updated her ID card to reflect any changes she has made to her name or status since marriage.

I've seen Thai ladies turned away and told to return with their updated ID card before the Umphur would process the divorce.
