Legal Marriage In Thailand - Pros And Cons

Featured Replies

I am interested in the pros and cons of a legal marriage in Thailand from both the Thai and Expats standpoint. I understand the laws here are different as far as getting loans, signing contracts etc. I have also read that many well off Thai women forgo a legal marriage because it is a negative for them but it never says why. Trying to understand the differences from US law.

Not interested in whether I should marry a Thai national per se but how it could affect each of us negatively or positively so there are no huge surprises and we can plan accordingly.

If there are negatives can they be delt with in a prenup agreement.

I suggest you read Tv archives, nobody will answer, take toooo long.:D

Scorpio1945 Transam is right on.

The only thing I know about the pros & cons of legal marriage is the differents between 400,000baht visa and 800,000bht visa.

Allegedly you get 50% on divorces, but I thinks it's 49% or could be zero.

Joint property after marriage rules may mean both signatures are required for some transactions but other than that not much difference than other countries I suspect.
