It's that time of the year [Queen's birthday and mother's day] and for me, it's probably going to be the same as most years past.......think about appropriate gifts and reject them and end up just giving her money.

Any other ideas??

Would you mind explaining that to my wife?? Of course you're right.....but I've already started the tradition and once started, hard to stop it. I'm sure I'm not the only one that gives to the tw for mother's day

I got a hard time giving my mother anything :P because i don't live in the West anymore i forget the dates (not that i always remembered when i was still there) Might be a good idea to give my mom something on the Thai mothers day. Thank god that my mom thinks its more about the gesture then about the present itself unlike so many people nowadays.

But it sounds like your Mum gets neither the gesture nor the present :whistling:

To answer the op question - flowers and chocolates are never inappropriate.

as far as i understand from hubby and the workers here, thai mother's day (Queen's day) is strictly that: for mothers. and most of the thai guys here send money back to thailand for mom. even if for most of the year they are sending money home to their wives/family. not flowers. not chocolate. not anything. just some extra money , and they all, but all, invariably call up on that day. more pay to go type cards get sold on that day, King's day, and sonkran then most months.
