Eea Family Visa To Uk

Featured Replies

Hi,

My family and I are planning to go back to London shortly and as Im EU citizen (I have uk and Italian passport) I got a free eea visa for my girlfriend from the uk embassy in Bangkok.

The problem is that I will be travelling with a different flight from my Thai girlfriend and my daughter (British Thai passport holder) although we'll arrive at the same day.

My question is: given the fact she has a eea family visa does my girlfriend needs to pass the immigration with me or she can go by herself along with my daughter?

Can we enter uk different days?

Yes you girlfriend and your daughter can travel independently from you, you say she already has her permit.

She might be prepared to answer a few questions about you and the visit on arrival at the Border Control, she could well be asked.

Thanks.

However I thought as she got a specific eea visa to join family member for people related with eu citizen and not a regular visa she must enter uk along with me (so I was told).

Are you sure about that? (just don't want to take any risk)

She probably will be asked where you are, but if you arm her with a photocopy of your ITA passport, your flight reservation and a brief covering letter there shouldn't be a problem.

She has to be either joining you or accompanying you, so if she travels in advance, she could be refused entry.

Scouse.

Hi, sorry dont have a reply to your question. But as i were reading i noticed the words "free EEA visa" and got very interested. (I appologize if it is answered elsewhere but I just did a quick search with only this post came up.)

I read about this visa and it seams like it is a good alternative to a 6 month family visa (VAF1B), and you say its free?

The EEA family permit is free.

However, it is only available to family members of EEA nationals who are residing in a member state other than that of which they are a national.

So, for example, a British citizen who lived and worked in France could obtain one for their Thai spouse to live with them in France, but could not use one for them to enter the UK. Similalry, a French national living and working in the UK could obtain one for their Thai spouse to live with them in the UK, but not in France.

The regulations are a bit more complicated than that, but that's it in essence.

( For the benefit of pedants, I am also aware that 'EEA Family Permit' is what the UK calls them and that other member states use different terminoligies.)

A Schengen visa is also free to the family members of an EU national, but the UK is not a member of the Schengen area so it couldn't be used to visit the UK (or the RoI which is also not a member).

thanks for the reply... looks like i will go back to looking at the (VAF1B) normal family visa application then!
