Dear Fellow Forumers,

I have been on NON-B Working visa with work permit for almost 3 years. Now the time has come and I resigned from my job. My last working day is on 25th of this month, I guess that I have 1 WEEK to leave the country after that date? Is that true?

Since I still have almost a year to go at my university I want to change my visa to Student Visa NON-ED. How can I do it? I will have to leave the country? There is no way to convert the NON-B to ED at Immigration here in Bangkok?

Where do you advise me to go and make student visa? My passport doesnt have that many visa pages left (about 4 I think) so finding a convenient place is crucial.

I appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thank you,

If you are here on one year extensions of stay you must cancel your extension the day your employment ends and immediately leave unless you apply for an extension (7 days will be allowed). Some schools might be able to convert to ED extension of stay but likely only the top universities for full time students. Otherwise you will have to leave with school paperwork to obtain a new visa entry and then extend later. Believe any of the regional Consulates can provide.

Edit: Believe most have non visa entry to Malaysia so that is probably the best place for passport page usage.

I was told that you have 1 week to leave the country, but you see its just stupid how can you cancel the visa at immigration and leave immediately on the same day? I mean really. Sometimes I sit there for 3 hours at immigration.

P.S I wanted to ask what happens if you visa say valid until February 2011 and you just stay here without working. will they find out on 90 days reporting or? How would they know you are not working anymore? They always say at immigration that WP and Visa are 2 seperate things

They might not notice, but you could be in trouble if you find a new employer and want to start working. Questions could be asked then.

I will not, I will go to England somwhere around november with my wife. So I just wanted to stay here until then, without changing the visa, because leaving the country with only 4 pages left in my passport can be a problem.

I was told by my employer that they have changed regulation now from this month or something. They said they do not require to submit Work Permit back they just have write letter to Ministry of Labour who will inform Immigration and visa will be withdrawn.

Yes, there is no need any longer to return the work permit, only to inform the labour officem (and immirgation) with a letter from your boss.

(Unfortunately not every labour office seems to be aware that the wp no longer has to be returned).

I have one last question guys.

I just was told that I can change my NON -B to ED visa without leaving the country. I have supporting documents from my university, but as I know you need at least 15 days left for your visa. However my employer told me they will cancel it on 31st of August, do you think it I will show up on 29th they might not notice and change it for me?

Also I ve done all my stuff and ChaengWathana will they be able to do it lets say at immigration in Chiang Mai or they will send me back to CW?
