Hello everyone! I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon this forum, I hope someone will be able to give me some helpful information about my situation:

I am a South Korean citizen with a greencard in the US. My tourist visa (90 days for South Koreans) will expire on the 27th of August. I was supposed to fly out on August 18th but missed my flight. My ticket is with Singapore Airlines and unfortunately the next available flight out isn't until the beginning of September (my tourist visa expires on August 27th). Should I try for a visa extension or do a visa run? I don't want to overstay because I am planning on coming back to Thailand to study Thai Massage, and I've heard that overstaying could be bad if you're planning on returning to Thailand. Help! And thank you in advance for any and all information.

Cheers!

Overstay doesn't have any serious consequences regarding re-entry into Thailand. But it is best to stay legal and while on overstay you can be arrested.

Believe you can get a 7 day extension, if your flight out is within those 7 days! If that doesn't give enough time your best option is to travel to the border and leave and re-enter. But be sure to comply to the immigration laws of the country you will enter in order to leave Thailand.

A 7 day extension may be possible if it gives you enough time.

Exiting and re entering Thailand will give another 90 days.

As Mario said , make sure of any Visa regulations of the Country you enter if using that method.

The only way is to go to Cheangwattan soi 7, Immigration Bureau to extend your stay another 30 days and you need to pay 1900 baht for extension.

Please photo copy your Passport first page with the photo, photocopy the TM card, Photo copy the page you have immigration stamp on your passport too.

You need to get the Immigration form in Immigration Bureau and filled up then put a photo attached to it. Then you go to the counter to get the Q ticket to go to counter J inside to get 30 extension without any issue. Don't have to waste alot of time you can go before 3 or 4 days before your expiration of your visa.

If he has a Tourist Visa this would be the way to go.

I am guessing he has a Visa Exempt Entry in which case the most he would get would be a 7 day extension.

A tourist visa cannot be extended past 90 days from date of entry:

2.4 police order 777/2551

2.4 In the case of tourists: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 30 days at a time but not exceeding 90 days in total, counting from the entry date.

He can only get a 7 day under consideration stamp.:(

Edit:

But as Light Beer Said, he is on a visa exempt entry, which is for him 90 days and can not be extended, other than by a 7 day under consideration.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all your responses and replies. I just wanted to clear up the situation - I got in touch with a couple visa run companies and they all said that citizen of SOUTH KOREA are allowed a 90 day entry visa anytime they enter Thailand. This is because of the bilateral agreement that exists between Thailand and South Korea. WHEW! Apparently they are not allowed to even ask to see return tickets, funds available, etc. I just wanted to thank everyone again for their replies and let you guys know what happened.

Cheers!
