1) To get a work permit, a company needs (per work permit) to employ at least 4 Thais and have 2 million baht in registered capital. The cost of the permit is a few thousand baht, then there is the cost of the visa, and probably the cost of lawyers to assist you. Then on top of that, there is a minimum tax requirement each month, and additional accounting requirements.

2) In a lot of countries, if you have entered on a tourist visa (ie not allowed to work) and then find a job, you have to leave the country and get your working visa (not work permit) outside of the country.
