I was very saddened to hear of the death of my friend from Sheffield ( UK )whilst he was living in Thailand.

His name is Dean Batty.

I had lost touch with Dean a few years ago but was , more than, surprised to hear from my mother, who is a friend of his parents, that Dean had committed suicide in Thailand last year.

He hung himself for reasons unknown. He had moved to Thailand with his girlfriend, I don't know where he was living or his situation , but would like to find out the truth of what happened to him. I feel shocked that he ended his life of his own doing as he was a man that would not take anything laying down.

Dean was the landlord of The Vine just off London Road in Sheffield for a while in the late 90,s, to give anyone a clue.

He was an army boxing champion in his time and used to coach me and my friends in the village we all grew up in, Todwick near Sheffield, England.

If anyone can throw some light on his time in Thailand , and why things turned out as they did. I would be grateful to hear from you.

If anyone wishes to PM me if they would not like anything made public, please do.

Thanks

Was it ever reported in the Thai press?

If so which one and when as nothing shows up on google.

The British embassy in bangkok would be the place to start your search.

Condolences, There are many strange Falang deaths in Thailand, that is common knowledge, It would not be report and if it was, it would get minimal coverage , Thailand do not want bad publicity because it would affect the tourist trade even more.

Firstly, regrets re your Dad from a fellow Yorkie.

I have lived in the north of Thailand for several years and my Thai wife and I have quite good contacts.

If you ever hear that the North (not what people here call the North East) is involved in his story, especially Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai, I would be prepared to make some inquiries for you.

PM me, giving your own e-mail address, if you think I could help.

Not wanting to seem insensitive here or make incrimination's but being a former champion boxer may speak volumes to the reasoning for his final demise as it is well understood these days that the brain injuries often suffered in such sports may eventually bring on feelings of depression and suicide therefore maybe you can take some solace in knowing it may well have been out of the reach of help without anyone really knowing how he was feeling or the full extent of the damage he received over years of boxing.. Assuming of course that it really was a suicide..

At any rate sorry for your loss and I hope you find what you're looking for..

yeah i understand what you mean, just that i spoke to him only a few days before he died and there was no indication of depression. he was really settled in thailand and finally somewhere he loved. can understand why with the pics he took smile.gif

Yea I should of added "sudden and explicable". I don't know the answers any more then anyone else does just offering some possible reasons, and I'm not sure what finding out any thing different is going to do in terms of giving you piece of mind but then again I'm not in your position :jap: ..
