DPM denies report on resignation

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak today denied he had announced his resignation at a meeting of senior officials of the Finance Ministry, saying the news report is totally groundless.

“How such a report is released. It is like a Chinese fiction written by Kow Leng. Now, the country is in a difficult period. Everybody needs to work in harmony. The report has affected the image of the government,” he said.

He reiterated whether he would be removed or not depended on the decision of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Dr. Somkid brushed aside the criticism by academics and economists that the government came up with too many measures to solve the current economic woes.

He said the government was ready to heed their suggestion that it should issue not many measures and put them into practice as much as possible.

However, he added, the critics should not rush to make a conclusion until they are informed of details of the measures to be given by the primer this evening.

Dr. Somkid said he was confident the measures would definitely benefit the public.
