Retired Military

Featured Replies

Age 63 and wife 64. Right now I have prime and she is on For Life. Both have SS. Couple of questions.

Was told when we move to Thailand next year, I will 64, she, 65, Her Tricare can only be Tricare Standard. Me, also if I chose. True or not?

Also, since SS is being paid, and Medicare taken out, can we stop the Medicare since they have no service there, still get Tricare Standard?

Thank you for any assistance.

I think if you want to use the TriCare overseas you must continue paying Medicare. Try calling the US military retiree office at JUSMAG and they can better answer your questions. Tel: 02 287-1036, ext 165

Sorry, I didn't read your post correctly. I thought you were already in Thailand. Disregard calling JUSMAG. Unless you want to make a long distant call!

PM me and I will give you the e-mail of the duty expert here.

Please check this site for JUSMAGTHAI info about retirees. You will find several names and addresses of the proper folks to contact for good answers and info.

No. You'll need to keep paying your Medicare premiums . Your Tricare for Life morphs into Tricare Standard when overseas. And, all the deductibles, co-pays, and out-of-pocket caps are identical to what Tricare Standard is in the States. But you'll still need to qualify for Tricare for Life via paying those Medicare premiums.

Search on Tricare on this forum. Several threads dealing with this, including how to file for reimbursement -- and how to get overnight hospital stays billed directly from (certain) hospitals to Tricare.
