Hi,

Can anyone give me some advice please. My question is:

Can a ex employer deduct tax from a final payment due to employee, I have a letter from ex employee stating i would be paid xxxx, however I received considerably less. I can only think it is a tax deduction. When we let people go their final payment was not subject to tax. Does anyone know.

best regards tim

Is the "payment" Salary ??

If so then yes, a tax contribution would need to be removed from it before the net amount was released.

It is a commission payment.

YEP, WHT (I think 15% on commissions) must be deducted and a tax certificate handed over to the receiver of the commission.
