My question relates to getting a work permit to run my own business in Thailand such as a mini mart, takeaway food shop etc.

According to what I have read and I may have interpreted wrong, but you must own/buy a business that is 2 million baht minimum purchase price?

So just say I bought a laundry say 1.8 million baht,i could apply for a work permit as a manager?

And is the minimum income 50,000 b per month I must declare?

It is not about what you pay for the business but about what the business is worth. Your own business in Thailand would be something where you have a minority stake in, but others are better in explaining this.

An important factor would be if you are married to a Thai national or not.

The minimum income only applies if you apply for an extension of stay from immigration based on your employment and depends on your nationality.

2.000.000 Baht if the liability for setup a new limited company. You don't need this money. It's only a warranty.

You can setup a new company but you need 2 thai shareholder, 1 one of them will be the general manager for setup

You will be shareholder at 35%

New Company wil ask for a non-immigrant-B visa for you (3 months)

You will enter with non-B visa in thailand

New company must hire 4 thai employees (real or fake)

New company can hire you like a farang employee

You get work permit

You will became manager of company

All shareholder sign that to change the manager it's necessary at least 70% (so no one can change manager without your agreement)

Thai shareholders sign am hidden agreement to sell you 100% of shares, even you cannot register officially, you can change thai shareholder if something wrong.

Some trick for paying salaries to thai, taxes and deduction.

50.000 minimum for you, but you will pay just a few taxes, don't worry.

You can do everything with an international agency at 200.000baht, a local agency at 100.000 baht for service + fee for government and taxes.

All clean and legal.

I did all in 5 months with a local consultant (english, french spoken young effective thai girl). Contact me in PM, if you are interested i will send you her contact).

WOW they are some very expensive fees- 5 months & 200,000bt. Took me 1 week and approx 4000bt. In most cases the consultants (Supposed lawyers) are only needed IF you have a complex case.

They all try to make it sound as complex as possible so they naturally get your work and make some good money. However if you have half a brain, trusted educated thai friends\partner\etc then it not difficult. Naturally anyone involved in the process will try to have you go to a consultant as they get 20-30% to send you to them. DIY is very possible.

I have done it and many I know have also... if you want express approval naturally you can pay 'tea money' to have this done faster. But 200,000bt Ohh come on- what a joke. Most biz owners are lucky to make 200,000bt profit in the whole time they try to operate a business.

I disagree with the above- just touting for work or will refer you for a 30% commission.

I agree as well, it's very expansive.

If you don't want to do it yourself, in my case I setup most of company stuff (registration to DBD, to VAT, social security, and so on) for 20k bahts. My accountant (thai, but english speaking) did it all. Btw I already had thai shareholders. But I agree you can do it all by yourself.

From what I've seen, "high-so" lawyers will charge you around 50k for all. For 100-200k I guess you have the happy ending too.
