Sad story. She was an attractive young woman on the threshold of being an adult. Sounds like she was a wild child with too much freedom and little self discipline.

Bangkok produces thousands of these kids a year, both Thai, foreign, and luk krueng.

Not blaming the parents or the institutions involved, but one reason why my kids are not going to get first tier top shelf everything in life, even though we could easily afford it. Kids born and raised too close to the top often are often more likely to head in the other direction.

Absolutely, in fact more accidents and bad things in general happen to poor kids.

IMO though, without making any assumptions regarding Nicole's case, that kids that were once poor and now middle class or once middle class and now upper middle class are less likely to get despondent over things that are relatively insignificant in the big picture. Not saying this was a depression thing. Let's say this was Jenny, Earth, or Nica (incidentally all kids of mid level diplomats) on the balcony of their high rise condo, drinking, and in a bad mood because their comforter was torn, they just had a fender bender with a taxi, or they were having an allergic reaction to some cosmetic surgery they just had... no reason at all to be in a bad mood if one has witnessed life at all different levels.
