Indonesian Volcanic Ash Stops Air Traffic

People travelling in the north of Sumatra will experience great problems in the near future. 20.000 people have to flee.

The volcano has not been active since around year 1600, and this makes it impossible to say how the pattern of the volcano will evolve during eruption.

20.000 people have already fled, standby.dk reported on Monday, and authorities alarm all flights in the area to keep away from the area above the northern Sumatra.

"The problem is that we don't have any possibility of knowing what to expect," an Indonesian volcanologist says according to standby.dk.

Only few people expected the volcano to show further signs of activity after the eruption on Sunday, but Monday's eruption was even more powerful than the one on Sunday.

People travelling to Indonesia must expect great delays. Loads of domestic flight departures in Indonesia have been cancelled.
