I recently renewed my US passport and therefore needed to transfer my retirement visa extension of stay stamp to the new passport.

Earlier today I went to Pattaya Immigration and presented both passports to the Thai student trainee at the front entrance desk. She gave me a form to fill out (no form number, simply named "Transfer Stamp To New Passport" in the subject line.)

I completed the form and she gave me a que ticket; I was called to desk #6 in less than five minutes.

The immigration officer was not interested in the transfer form or the letter from the US embassy advising them of my new passport and requesting that they transfer my stamp(s.) The officer did want my exit card which he stapled in my old pass port. He gave me a numbered claim ticket and told me to pick up the passports tomorrow.

I went prepared and had photo copies my current stamp, front pages of both passports and my last entry stamp but, suprisingly, I was not asked for them

By the way, immigration was practically deserted; the slowest I have ever seen it in Pattaya.

Will report tomorrow after I've picked up my passports :)

1 day(!) to do it?

When I transferred a VISA some years ago it took them 10 minutes...but this was in Bangkok.

I was just informed by the border-station that I could do it there this time, for the mere fee of 20 baht...taking no time.

Yep. Pattaya Immigration also keeps my passport overnight when I renew my retirement visa. Same as your experience, when I lived in Bangkok they would complete the process the same day. I think each immigration is a law unto them selves :D

I carried out this procedure in the Tak office a few months ago.

I had no letter with new British passport.

I completed the 'transfer stamp' form

The visa is not transferred, only a stamp was given with visa details filled in by hand.

The extension of atay stamp is inserted with permitted to stay up to date as in your old passport.

In total I received 5 stamps in my new passport, taking 2 full pages.

My completed Transfer stamp form was kept, along with various copies of my old and new passports. All of these being placed in my file.

No waiting for next day here, job complete in about 15 minutes.

Same here, I did my transfer at the Pattaya Immigration Office a little over a year ago. There was no que or wait. The officer made the stamp to the new passport and filled in the old visa details. The exit card and 90 day reporting paper were removed from the old passport and stapled in the new passport. I'd say a max of 10 minutes and I was done with passport in hand.

No fee either. Nor any of that other stuff.

Sorry, it sounds to me the Pattaya Immigration Office is not to be praised now.

Went back to Pattaya Immigration today at 1000 hours and received both passports back in two minutes, no charge. The new stamps took up three pages in my new passport-oh joy... For reasons unknown to me, they kindly gave me a new 90 day report; currious since my currnt report is good until Oct 27. Go figure.

While I was there I got a new re-entry permit; took about 15 minutes all in.

Immigration is really dead; last year I could barely get in the door. Ah but I'm wrong since officials have reported that tourisim has recovered

Which border station do you mean? Land border? Is that common practice now, do you know - to transfer stamps from old passport to new as you cross over the borders?

Thanks for any info... Cheers....
