September 2, 201015 yr I have seen swedes and potato's in foodland, but wondered where i could by in bulk, like in 20 kilo bags has anyone seen this at a Bangkok wholesale market,
September 2, 201015 yr Author it is a root vegetable that you can mash dice or slice nice with butter and black pepper, it is yellow colour inside and a skin of purply brown Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a Swede?
September 3, 201015 yr In England it's called "Turnip" Patrick Thats definately a swede Pat. Turnips are a little smaller generally. Anyway, not that it matters, I doubt they grow in Thailand. It would be nice if I was proved wrong. I love em.
September 3, 201015 yr Swedes and turnips are two different veg. Have never seen any here in Thailand but as said Swede mashed with some butter and black pepper. Gorgeous I often do a Sunday roast and that is the one veg missing. I would love to find some. Is there a Thai name for it / them ?
September 3, 201015 yr They normally have swedes in Friendship in Pattaya, but the price is quite scary. One of the cheapest vegetables in the UK, often fed to pigs by farmers as it's not worth their while transporting them to market, run at about 600 baht/kilo here, making a medium sized swede around 300 baht. I love em also, but not that much
September 3, 201015 yr Try some pumpkin; mashed with butter and lots of black pepper and some imagination
September 5, 201015 yr The Royal Project grows swedes but they are seasonal only available around December to January. Doi Kham shops sell them retail. Perhaps contacting the Royal Project direct they will be willing to supply in bulk. Doi Kham shops are well worth visiting for vegetables and fruit, although it depends on the time of year as to what is available
September 5, 201015 yr Author actually it the correct name for it is a swede, but for some strange reason the northern English incorrectly call it a turnip, but in Scotland they call it a neep In England it's called "Turnip" Patrick
September 5, 201015 yr Swede is a winter grown veg, therefore needs a cold and frosty ground to grow best. If grown in Thailand then it has to be in the very north where it's quite cold in Dec/Jan! Btw Turnips are smaller and pure white throughout! Methinks!
