Does The Private School Act B.E. 2550 Cover Language Schools?

Featured Replies

Does the Private School Act B.E. 2550 cover language schools?

I have read it but still none the wiser. If it does not, what Act covers language schools?

Are you looking for something specific, bapak?

The National Education Act BE 2544 (1999) describes three forms of education. Formal, non-formal and informal. Reading the Act I've always thought that Language Schools, in case they are providing after school classes, belong to the category of informal education.

The Private School Act BE 2550 (2007) describes formal and non-formal schools.

I have read Clause 120 and onwards... so assume that it covers language schools.

It has been said to me that it is legal to have a "school" with 7 students or less. I would like to establish if this is correct.

Please share whatever info you find out.

And/or whatever the education dept said.

Much appreciated.

What I have is what you see..

From what I gather. There are 3 sets of rules from the MOE. Each has their own requirements.

What you most likely seen is something for Thai schools, Government, Private, International and so on. You must have a 4 year degree in any subject or Degree in Education or even a Masters in Ed. A TEFL and so one.

Language schools in general. Have less strict rules to go by. No degree is needed or stressed really. Yet, some schools run by westerns seem to have stressed or want to establish the same standards or criteria as a Thai school and completely ignoring the fine print or can't read or simply understand.

The 3rd option. Money talk and MOE standards walk.
