Thai Going Through Kl

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am bringing a Thai gf to Australia for a holiday (please on comments on that).

I can get a very cheap flight for her from Bangkok to Gold Coast via Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia (return it is $633).

Would anyone know if she is likely to have issues through immigration in KL for any reason? She is flying out of KL about 4 hours after landing and won't be leaving the airport but just had a thought that even though she has another flight to leave there could still be visa or immigration issues in KL.

I appreciate your assistance.

Malaysia is part of asean and thais don't need visas to enter

Being in transit means anyway that she would not legally have entered malaysia

let's see what others think.

Actually she will, as Air Asia is a point to point carrier she will clear Immigration in KL and check in for her flight to the Gold Coast. As has been pointed out Thai Nationals do not need a visa to enter Malaysia and I suspect that Malaysian Immigration Officers are very used to people transiting through the low cost terminal, and given that she will have an onward ticket to Australia she will not encounter a problem.

Air Asia are gradually rolling out a connection service in KL which will allow passengers to remain airside and have their luggage checked through, but I don't think it's in place for flights originating from Thailand yet.
