Keyboard Issues-Ps2 Vs Usb On Xp And Win7

Featured Replies

It came time to replace my keyboard to to sticky keys etc., so I went out and bought an OKER USB Keyboard.

Now, XP, still my main platform for total compatibility, will not recognize the Keyboard on XP boot while it does on Win7.

The keyboard is recognized during BIOS setup etc

Previously my keyboard was a PS2.

My Mouse is recognized by both OS's.

I have tried multiple USB Ports to no effect.

Any thoughts on way XP does not recognize the new USB Keyboard?

Thanks

My son had the same problem with his previous PC (XP)

USB keyboard was not recognized by XP. He got a small adapter (USB to PS2) and problem was solved.

There were problems with USB keyboards in XP Service Pack 1 which were fixed with SP2, so firstly noting the compatibility point is this a SP 2 or 3 install?

Second, and I'm not making this up, power down and remove the power cable [really really switch the system off] wait about 20 seconds, reconnect and retry. Why? USB can get scrambled and the internal controller needs to be reset, which means no power to it for @ 10 seconds. Remember, when you normally power down the PC it is still live, hence the remove the power cable point.

Thirdly are you getting any error messages, e.g. USB device not recognised? If so option 2 may well resolve this.
