Hi again,

I really appreciate all your responses. They have been very helpful. I had another question about the ED Visas:

I was wondering what happens if I have a 1 year ED Visa at a private school, and then use up all my study hours in say the first 2 months. Can I stay for the full year still? Or do I need to continue purchasing hours in order to do so? And if I need to continue purchasing hours, do I have to buy them right away or can I wait for a certain amount of time? If I can wait, how long can I wait? (I understand I would have to renew or notify immigration every 90 days so perhaps before then?)

Thanks.

Tthe Ed visa covers the whole year, so even if you study 180 - 200 hours in the first two months, your visa is still valid. It would be very hard to use up all your hours so quickly though- you'd have to be studying fairly intensively to manage that.

It is unlikely that you will receive a (multiple entry) one year ED-visa anywhere in the region. Rather you will get a single entry and have to extend it every 90 days on proof of school attendance.

If you where to get a 1 year (multiple entry) ED-visa, you would not need to study at all. Only when you are on an extension of stay does your attendance need to be checked.

Our son is from Myanmar he is here on a ED Visa - he goes to language school twice a week for Thai, also twice a week for English, plus he does Computer Studies- he has to report like everyone every 90 days and has to have all the legal paperwork from the Language School - he always has his lesson plan and hrs attended available for checking if required - When our son arrived from Myanmar he was on a tourist visa - the Walen School was excellent they arranged for all of our sons paperwork to be in place and ready for us to go to Singapore to apply for his ED Visa - if you do everything legally you will have no problem - good luck with your studies - we are so proud of our son and what he has acheived in just one year -But! this was only possible for us to achieve, because of all the help and advice plus the encouragement we received from this Forum - So a very big thank you to you all - we are lucky that we have our son here with us in Thailand and he is enjoying his life.
