I have a couple of winRAR files sitting on my desktop and in my Downloads of course. I loathe winRAR, it won't let me open anything and remember 7zip much easier to use.

So off I went to trusty old Download.com aka CNet and have spent the past hour trying to download it. Every time I click on 'download' bloody Zone Alarm rears it's ugly head and asks me if I want to 'run' or 'save'. It then gives a dropdown of where to save or run to, with utorrent highlighted?! which of course doesn't work. I then get a thank you for downloading 7zip, but it's nowhere to be found.

I've gone to 'tools' and added download.com to my exceptions, all to no avail. Wassup? Thankyou:)

If your right clicking to "save as" all you get is a PHP file. You must use their download stuff. Just left click it and follow the pop up pages to a final download button. This way you see all the ads that pay for their site. You can't download directly from the first link, and they often will not resume if they get dumped by ToT which is equally as common.

This has been my experience with Cnet downloads and a few other sites set up the same way.

See if there are some php files in that download location now.

I've used download.com for years and never had any problems downloading from their download button. Now, soon as I hit it (all with left clicks, I'm immediately getting the ZoneAlarm box asking if I want to run or save and no matter how I do it, an option comes up of whether to save in utorrent, winRAR?! EE etc. I did do a 'search' and found it in ADMIN, created a desktop (which looks like a blank dogeared page), and then when try to extract 7zip doesn't come up as an option, even with 'browse', only winRAR.

CNet so easy before I installed ZoneAlarm:annoyed: What's it doing to my downloads?

If you found a php file it downloaded the redirect page rather then taking you to the pop up with the link on it. If it was the file you wanted but only a small part then it must be a zone alarm thing which I know little about. It's common that people try the right click and save as at these sites - it fails and only downloads the redirect itself.

You can't save in WinRAR. One usually saves to a location, not a program.

If you can't get on with ZoneAlarm, un-install it. http://forums.zonealarm.com/showthread.php?t=70034
