A Curious Question

Featured Replies

I am just wondering and if somebody help me make sense of this:

Is there any significance seeing a Thai Woman having to wear her rings in the middle finger?

Just wondering and hope someone could shed light.

Why am I curious?

I have met someone and had no chance to ask if she is married or not.

So looking at the photo I took of hers I realize she is wearing it on her middle finger instead.

Trip back to Thailand no sooner than I think it would be so your assistance would be very much appreciated.

Thank You.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question. But fortunately I can welcome you to TV.

Tip

In my observation Thais in general do not recognize a wedding ring as a symbol of marriage as we do in the west. So you can not base any judgment on their status by the ring or which finger it is on.

I just asked my girlfriend. Rings on the middle finger do not mean anything. If married, and if you can afford a ring, then it is worn on the left ring finger. If girlfriend/boyfriend then it's worn on the right ring finger. At least that's her interpretation. I will qualify by saying that anyone who has been in LoS any length of time can confirm that LoS is also LoI, the Land of Inconsistencies. I can see your confused face now. :D

yup-middle finger means she likes to wear jewelry. I wear rings on my middle finger and it means I like to wear rings.

lol

Some trivia:

"The Middle Finger - The Meaning of the Middle Finger for Rings: Identity & Materialism - Being the tallest finger, the middle finger is associated with our purpose in life. Also the center of the hand, it represents personal identity and those things that are most important to us. People who wear a ring on their middle finger often desire to be the center of attention."

What is the Meaning of Each Finger for Rings?

So, if somebody is demonstrating a middle finger to you, it means that he has a purpose in life and that you are important to him. No offense intended!

No, it means they have a desire to be the centre of attention, so if you demonstrate the middle finger, I hope you can handle the attention.

maybe the ring became too large for her ring finger (through weight loss).
