Wtb Carb Cleaner

Recommended Posts

I need to rebuild a set of Weber 40 IDF's and cannot find carb cleaner. The dunk the carb in type, not the spray into the throat of a running car.

Any idea where to buy some or what chemical I can use? I suspect that trichloroethylene or perchloroethylene will work and if so a dry cleaner may be of help. I am a bit leery to use either due to health risks.

Better yet anyone that has an ultrasonic cleaner big enough to take the body

A perusal of the MSDS sheets suggests that one could brew up some carb cleaner using 10% methylene chloride or MEK (methyl ethyl ketone)+ either kerosene or alcohol. Once again both chemicals are nasty stuff.

I still would rather buy some commercial swill.

There is always boiling vinegar, but I put my faith in the nasty chemicals.

Mineral spirits which is most commonly used in parts washers.. Turpentine also which is a bit stronger but you have to be careful of any rubber parts as it attacks them and swells before they begin to degrade..
