Retiree With Younger Farang Wife And Kids

Featured Replies

I have been scouring the forum for answers to my question but have come up short. I hope one of all you knowledgable guys knows the answer and takes the time to answer.

I have the age and income to apply for a retirement visa but my wife is only 39 and our 2 kids go to lower school.

Does anyone know if they can get residence visa as dependents of me?

Our plan is to send the kids to an international school in Thailand.

Thanks in advance for any help or hints.

If you would provide more info regarding country of origin et cetera

that would help us to find dif way to help you.

Pls do give us more specificities.

Once you get yourself a 1 year extension of stay based on retirement from immigration in Thailand, your wife can get a dependent extension of stay piggybacked to your retirement extension. The kids will have no trouble getting education extensions while attending international school. Alternatively, your wife could associate her extension of stay with the kids being in school. Everybody needs to enter Thailand with a non-immigrant "O" visa, preferably a multiple entry type.

When you have the retirement visa (O-A) or obtain the one year extension of stay from a non immigrant O visa entry your wife and children can obtain non immigrant O visas for entry and then convert to one year extensions of stay to match your permitted to stay time. They only require single entry visas and if have to do after arrival in Thailand (when you get extension) they can be obtained in a country nearby.

The Police Order that deals with Extensions of Stay.

Have a look at 2.8 , 2.9 , 2.11 , 2.22 , 2.20.

Police Order 2008.pdf

2.20 would probably be the best option for the family , but up to you.

My wife is Polish and I am Danish. Does that influence the visa process?

Thank you very much tor taking the time to answer, your help is most appreciated.

I had to do exactly this last year,My wife and child got single entry 90 day non O visas in Vietnam, the reason for this was explained to the Thai Consulate there, and all they needed to see there was our marriage certificate.Once these were obtained, when we were back in Thailand I went to Immigration in Jomtien and obtained my normal extension of stay, based on retirement. The next day I went in with my wife and child and obtained their piggy-backed extension as my dependents. The only document required here was our marriage certificate, and a certified translation into English.I would think that you will need to obtain a translation of your marriage certificate, either into Thai or English. Each visa cost 1900THB and each multiple entry/exit permit was 3800THB.
