Udon Thani Immigration Request A Certification Of Embassy Income Letter By Foreign Affairs

In Phuket, as a US citizen I always have to get a certified letter on income from the US Embassy or Consulate outreach. Unless you have over 800,000 in a Thai bank account in your name for 3 months, an earnings certificate is required, or combination earning and savings to equal 800,000 Baht. There are threads about requirements for a one year extensions for retirement in this forum.

No tea money involved, just the rules.

there always seems to be some new thing you have to do or a new person doing the paperwork that drives us all a little mad at times. The last time I did my year extention I did not have my residence papers with me as I had not had to supply them before this year, so they told me to bring it to them when I picked up my passport.

I had the paperwork with me when I picked up my passport but forgot to give it to them and they did not ask for them so will make sure I have the papers with me next year so as not to have a problem.

I have not had any real problems extending yearly and have been doing it for about 5 years now. Fingers crossed on this.

I was just at Phuket Immigration this afternoon for my 90 day checkin. I know the guy that does it after many years. He just turned my report paper over to another side stamped it and stapled it back in. He then asked me how long have I been in Phuket now. I said over 5 years, in the same house over 4.

I then had a question about the earnings statement. How long in advance can I get it before my extension is due. He didn't understand so, another officer came over and we discussed it until he did understand my question and he answered; it just has be dated the same year as the new extension. My extension is due the end of June, 2011, so he said anytime after January 1, 2011.

They are great there now! It took 2 minutes to get my 90 day stamp! I don't even bother with the farang volunteers there now as they have given me incorrect information on more than one occasion!

" Another thing that interests me is the difference between the postees claiming to be telling the same story. For example I have seen guys having a hard time in immig standing in flip flops bony hairy knees and sleevless vests. When the next guy in long trousers has an easy ride....

Respect. "

Agree 100%, they are officials in the Thai society. Even if their income is a fraction of yours they still have the power. Showing up un-shaved and with a trunk claiming "I love Chang" doesn't put the odds in your favour.

Nongkhai Immigration demands this for a few years now. They even send you a letter by post close to renewal and it states clearly that the income statement from your embassy must be verified at Chaeng Wattana. So I follow their rules. They check this extra paper too. And the letter does not say that this rule is only for Dutch nationals.....I heard that German nationals have the same questions.
