September 27, 201015 yr In the UK, takeaway food is cheaper, as there is no sales tax on takeaway food. David That is not correct. Hot food sold on a take away basis is charged VAT at the standard rate, whilst cold food sold for take away is tax free. theoldgit
September 27, 201015 yr The funniest thing is that there's actually a 'Staff Wanted' sign up there.. Even though the place is completely deserted pretty much all of the time. It's a bit saddening, because he's in a non-tourist area where he might get Thai customers, but he's just giving Western restaurant operators and Western food in general a bad name. Have heard good things about the nearby Mr. Chan and Ms. Pauline though. (Canal Road near Night Safari road). Never been myself though, I rarely eat Western food unless I make it myself. (and even then it barely qualifies as Western. )

Normally I would go there but last night it was raining, I just wanted a quick take away to go home and watch the Grand Prix. In the end, I missed half the race, the food was a disgrace, and at Chans I could have had one of his excellent main courses for just over 220 baht. I paid 180 for takeaway crap!! Never again, amazing thing for this forum is that apart from Iain, everybody is remarkably scathing about this place!!
September 27, 201015 yr About 5 months ago at around 6PM I happen to be in the neighborhood thought I would stop in and check him out guess what, closed. Never went back.

My mistake, although I seem to remember a time when the issue was simply whether the food was consumed on or off the premises. Whatever. Let's just thank the powers that be that we're not subject to a 20% VAT rate here. Yet. Edited September 27, 201015 yr by Greenside
September 27, 201015 yr Maybe the owner of the place in question has learned the Thai way of doing business... namely.... When there is a lack of customers due to a down turn in the economy then the only answer is to lower quality and raise the prices.
September 27, 201015 yr because they sell them, or maybe because its convenient. whatever his reason, if they sells burgers they should be good. he says it was disgusting. if he cant do good burgers he should take em off the menu. at least he should warn his customers - we specialise in pizza, order anything else at your own risk. Having been to this venue many times I can vouch that these pizza,s are the best I have tasted anywhere in Chiang Mai,Including the venue mentioned above. Whats the rumor that this establishment may be losing the fantastic multiskilled musician and Pizza Chef . Helloo son!

Whats the rumor that this establishment may be losing the fantastic multiskilled musician and Pizza Chef . Helloo son! I think youre confusing restaurants here. Tony, a great Aussie musician and singer runs a nice joint just off the Hang Dong Road on the left side going towards Hang Dong which does OK pizzas. If the owner of the other place which is the subject of this thread is a musician, well, I ve never seen him at any of the music bars around town. Maybe he whistles a happy tune to himself to cheer himself up given that his food and service are so bad!!!.
September 28, 201015 yr My wife and I have driven by this pizza place a few times and speculated why anyone would put such a place - there. I've never been inclined to go check it out either. Today when I mentioned this thread to her, she recalled that she had seen on Thai TV an investigative report about farangs who operate shoddily run businesses in Thailand which somehow still manage to make millions of baht profit every year...
September 28, 201015 yr Nearly 10 quid for a Pizza, that's outrageous!! You'd easily pay that much at Pizza Express in London but that's largely irrelevant, the point is that I think it's a huge mistake to think in Pound terms in Thailand, Baht 400 is Baht 400 and (nearly) Ten Quid is Ten Quid, never shall the two ever be the same value for very long.

I'm not talking like or not like, The Pizza Company large pizza 550 baht, that's 11.50 quid and they sell them all the time.
