What type of visa do you presently have?

If its a 60 day tourist visa and you are wanting to apply for a new one the easiest place to go is Penang in Malaysia.

If it is a 60 day tourist you are aware you can extend by 30 days (normally) within Thailand at local immigration for 1900 baht aren't you?

If you are here on a 30 day on arrival stamp and are just wanting to do a "border hop" for a further 30 day stamp then a trip to Cambodia is the norm...........there are many topics on this forum regarding these "runs".

Found 3 visarun operators from yesterday’s paper.

1 departs from Sukhumvit 12, 1 from Sukhumvit 63, and 1 from Sukhumvit-Asoke. Do they offer the same service? Has anyone got 1st hand experience?

Ronpang, Are you trying to poromote one of these operators. It seems to be the flavour of the month.

I'd go for the one that goes to Pong Nam Ron.

Here is my 2 cents!

NOTE: Don't forget your extra pictures for your Visa application

OPTION 1 - If you only need a 60 day visa stamp

Go to the Mo Chit Bus station. Tell them you want to go to Aranyapreth in Sa Kaeo province. That should cost you around 200 baht.

When you get off the bus in Aranyapreth, take a motorcycle taxi to the border crossing at Poi Pet. Don't try to walk, its 5km away. I paid 40 baht for that.

When you get to border, follow the crowds to Poi Pet. Process out of Thailand thru the border check point. (Building on the left). Chances are you will be met by someone offering assistance with your paperwork. It's up to you if you want to let them help you. If you do, I wouldn't give them more than a 100 baht (thats being very generous) to walk you thru the process.

Then get your Cambodian visa (1000 baht) and return to Thailand getting the necessary exit stamp from Cambodia as you do.

Then process back through Thai immagration where they will stamp your visa and charge you nothing.

Then take the motorcycle taxi to the bus stop and the bus back to Bangkok. Total cost is less than 1200 baht.

OPTION 2 - Your visa expired and you need a new one.

I like going to Laos for my visa. The Thai embassy in Vientian, the capital, is right across the border from Thailand.

From Bangkok, I usually take 2nd class train with air conditioner over night to Nong Khai. Cost is about 700 baht one way.

Then you need a Laos visa to get into Laos. I think its about 1500 baht.

I usually stop at a visa service and let them walk my paperwork through the border at Lao Immagration. I also get them to negotiate a taxi from the border of Lao Immagration to Vietnaine (25km). that usually cost about 200 baht.

To apply for a Thai visa you have to get to the embassy in the morning. The afternoons are only for picking up your visa.

If you are good with reading maps, you can take your chances and rent a motorcycle in Vietnatine for about 200 baht. Then see if you can find the Thai embassy on your own.

If not, use a tuk tuk service. Or, you can ask your taxi driver who got you to the border to take you to the embassy the next day.

When you get to the embassy, there will be people out there asking you if you have your application done. Ignore these people.

Go past the guard shack and follow the sidewalk to the left. There will be some chairs and 2 embassy officials processing applications in a covered outdoor office. Ask them for the application. Fill out the application and give it back to the embassy personnel.

After a certian number of applications are processed, they will call everyone inside to pay for their visa. Give them 1000 baht and they will give you a reciept and tell you to come back the next afternoon.

Return the following afternoon to the place where you filled out the application, give them the reciept, and they will give you your passport back with your new Thai visa.

Then finish your stay in Laos, return to Thailand immagration, then continue on with your business in Thailand.

A few things to remember,

1. Thai embassy closed on the weekend. So if you go on a Friday, you still have to wait to Monday to fill out your visa application.

2. Carry pleanty of them tiny visa application photos with you. You will need them going into Laos and when you apply for your visa.

3. Book your train to Nong Khai a few days in advance because they might not have any seats avaliable the day you want to leave.

4. Food, alcohol, and such is sold on the train but at airport prices. It is ok to to take beer, juice, soft drinks, and food on the train with you.

OPTION 3 - Your not going to stay longer than 30 days more in Thailand.

Go to Bangkok immagration and get a 30 day extension for 1900 baht.

Actually there are four players on Bangkok Post doing the visaruns.

1) “East Meets West Travel” Tel: 02-251-5230, depart from Sukhumvit 12 to Poipet.

2) “Jack Total Golf ” Tel: 02-251-1946, depart from Sukhumvit 12 to Poipet.

3) “Quick Thai Visa Run” Tel: 02-713-2498, depart from Sukhumvit 63 to Chantaburi.

4) “Fineday Tours” Tel: 02-682-8940, depart from Sukhumvit 21 to Poipet.

My suggestion is to try the one going to Chantaburi, due to the so-called nightmare at Poipet.

Never tried their service, can’t say any about the quality, reliability, etc.

Ps. I am not working for nobody, don’t throw shiit on me.

I don't know anything about a business visa. My information is based on my expierence getting a tourist visa.

I would think that you do need the same information you had orginally to get a new business visa. It would probably have to be up to date too.

I think Thai immagration wants to make sure you are still working at that same job and not somewhere else in Thailand doing something different.

Good man Richard but los is where UK£ and US$ is king, I am not a man to work in a coutry as this, I worked hard enough for 10 years in the UK, I am 31 years old so the only long term visa for me without getting married (which is not on the cards) is the business visa, I am looking to invest in a business in los but am in no rush and it has to be something i can do when i feel like it and for maybe a day or so a week. Life is no rehersal so enjoy it while you can!! :o

Best of luck to you

Don't know about BKK, but I did my 1st Cambodia visa run from Pattaya this week using 5-star visa run, booked at the Sportsman's Restaurant, and would highly recommend this service. For 2400 baht, includes breakfast, 5 other passengers in a mini-bus equipped with DVD. Left Pattaya promptly at 7AM, and returned by 2:30 PM. Border crossing, near Trat, was very quiet, only spent about 15 minutes in Cambo, and a box lunch was provided for the way back.

My only complaint was they didn't allow beer on the bus.

Pattaya is a bit closer to the border than BKK, they should've charged you a bit cheaper as well. we only pay 2K in BKK for this service.

Mama Tours on Khaosan, also. I think its about 1500-1700 THB there. No food or accomodations, though, and you wait in line everywhere. Its the same service that they use to Ankhor Wat. Only you just turn around at the border and come back instead of pushing on. They always show the worst movies you can imagine, too. Which is good for its own entertainment value, really.

My visa is due on 31st of this month, can any pro tell me where to go for a visarun? many thanks.

ps. I am in BKK.

Personally, I would recommend going to Penang in Malaysia. Air Asia has very cheap flights now to Penang, prior to going give Manaff (Man)in Penang a call and he should be able to assist in getting a visa for you!

Manaff's telephone number is +6016-455 4851

I have recently come back from Penang, it was my first time and he took care of everything.

By the way if you do go, the Continental Hotel is a decent place to stay. It cost me 69MR per night (I was by my self), which included a decent breakfast.

Good Luck!

done both of them.

www.thaivisarun.com depart 10 o'clock, a bit late for me, but it is pretty quick.

the lotus on nut one, it is a bit more expensive, but you can smoke on the way, which is very helpful.

can smoke on the bus, are you serious?

Well 'smoking on the way' would put me off using that serivce.

I have used the 10am service, but their van has very small seats and I'll never use it again

I have used another service in Khao San which charged only B450 for the bus (return), of course nothing is included except the bus, you have to get your own visa (or get it at the border, they will help you for an inflated rate), and at the border they asked us to pay B300 to bribe the police in order to let us go out and back to Thailand on the SAME day. This is another rip-off, some people on the bus paid, but some refused, including me. Those who refused to pay the bribe was okay to do so, but had to wait for an hour or two at the border police immigration office. A torture!

So the lesson... the next time I just joined the service of Jack Golf, they charged a bit more, but everything seems to be very smooth except that we made a mistake to cross the border on Saturday!! (Thais flooded the Cambodian casino!) so we had to wait for another hour or two at the Thai immig dept (because they have a new policy and Jack Golf claimed that they still couldn't find a way to bribe the police, YET!).

My visa is going to be expired very soon, I may either do another visa run by Jack Golf (not Khao San anymore) or fly to other country to get a tourist visa.

it was supposed to be 100 baht, I guess your tour guy was trying to make 200 baht cut.
