Martin
The villagers around us don't seem to be fixated on cash. They seem to treat small amounts of it as "portable rice/sarongs". When I go to a shop, and we find we are both in a good mood and get a bit of 'sanook' banter going, the shopkeeper will often pop in an extra egg, or tomato, or whatever. But sometimes s/he will knock off the odd bahts from the total. They are not music-hall Scots, guarding every penny, and saying "Many a mickle makes a muckle". (Perhaps it is because they don't have to live their lives in that blloody-awful Scottish climate.)
