Emergency to be extended in Bangkok

Extension needed as intellgience points to more violence from October to December

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday suggested that the emergency decree will likely be further extended for Bangkok and neighbouring provinces at the next Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Last Friday, the state of emergency was lifted in three northeastern provinces - Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Nakhon Ratchasima - prompting red-shirt protesters to regroup publicly.

Yesterday, a group of 100 red shirts in Nakhon Ratchasima staged the first political rally after the state of emergency was lifted.

The events, attended by two Pheu Thai members, included a musical show. Free food was offered to the gatherers. Somphote Prasartthai, one of the Pheu Thai members, called on the government to dissolve the House.

Meanwhile, sources at the Centre for Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) said the premier is worried that the security situation could worsen from October to December.

Intelligence from three separate agencies suggest it is highly likely that there would be a series of violent incidents and unrest involving places with political significance.

"The premier has ordered Suthep [who is in charge of the overall security situation] to step up measures to deal with ill-intentioned efforts aimed at causing chaos," said the CRES source.

"We also need to ensure maximum security at the residences of VIPs in politics, military and judiciary," the source added.

The source said security forces are particularly worried about political activities in October, including the October 7 event planned by the yellow shirts.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet is expected to approve the appointment of Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan to succeed Deputy Prime Minsiter Suthep Thaugsuban as CRES director.

Suthep plans to resign his post by Friday to run in the by-election in Surat Thani's Constituency 1.

The by-election will be held on October 30 to select a replacement for former Democrat MP Chumphon Kanchana, who faces a five-year ban from politics for submitting a false assets statement.

PM Abhisit will today leave for the Asia-Europe Meeting in Belgium.

Deputy premier Suthep has been assigned to chair the Cabinet meeting in his capacity as acting prime minister.

In a related development, the opposition Pheu Thai Party issued a statement entitled "Five Steps To Reconciliation".

Deputy party leader Plodprasob Surassawadee said the measures included:

- Stop hunting down the red shirts, or malice will result in revenge;

- Stop the bomb attacks;

- Stop all large-scale rallies by all sides, which he said would result in confrontation and counter-measures;

- Stop violating the monarchy or exploiting it for personal and political gains;

- Stop the state of emergency.

It gets so boring to continually hear the same broken record viz "...one of the Pheu Thai members, called on the government to dissolve the House." dry.gif

The you have their idea of reconcilliation viz

"... Stop hunting down the red shirts, or malice will result in revenge;" Threats to Thailand's population that basically means they want the perpetrators of the cargange and burning of Bangkok to be forgiven. No ... sorry fools!

"... Stop the bomb attacks;" So let's just blame the Dems for the continuing Grenade attacks around Thailand. Of course none of the reds have been involved in any bombing. Now they are starting to believe their own brainwashing.

"... Stop all large-scale rallies by all sides, which he said would result in confrontation and counter-measures;" That is what the SOE decree is all about but you all just ignored your own request Sept 17-19! Double standards or selective memory?

" ... Stop violating the monarchy or exploiting it for personal and political gains;" Again, double standards from the top down by your leaders and rabble.

"... Stop the state of emergency" Why? So you can start blockading streets again and causing unrest and civil disobedience leading to criminal assaults?

The SoE should be maintained indefinitely until perhaps the elections despite its rather slight impact on Thai society. It is only those wishing to stir up trouble who want it lifted and for the rest of us, it has no impact whatsoever that I can see! But in all seriousness against the evolution of Thai politics, if the opposition party and its Red followers want any chance at the election, they should drop their convicted criminal mentor puppet master, change their whining and whinging, and start a charter of positive improvements towards public sensibilities.

Many of those I have spoken with feel the Reds have some legitimate gripes and we all see a lot of problems as Farangs looking in at Thailand and its political circus. But under present leadership and opposition there can never be reconcilliation when the majority of motivation is at the behest of one mans greed and attempt to retrieve seized ill gotten assets.

At least they are not demands this time, could be a step in the right direction.

But the threats are still there:

malice will result in revenge
he said would result in confrontation and counter-measures

Note that this is only one PTP MP's idea as he said in another report that he would take it to the PT exec for their approval later.

Add to all that Jataporn's "taking the govt to the world court" and we see how much the PT and reds want reconcilliation.

DSI: Underground movements will disturb country until year end

BANGKOK, 3 October 2010 (NNT) - Department of Special Investigation Director-General Tharit Pengdit confirmed the intelligence report that said a group of underground people would keep creating disturbances in the country until the end of the year.

Talking about the daily bomb explosions throughout the city, Mr Tharit said the black-clad people were still conducting their movements underground. He said the group created violence because political gathering was forbidden, explaining that its aims were not to hurt or kill anyone but to show that it could make disturbances and that the government could not control the situation.

The Director added that the violence would continue until, at least, the end of the year; however, the DSI is doing its best to gather intelligence information, follow the group, and prosecute the culprits.

Concerning their money trail, Mr Tharit stated that the DSI had found the trace of money transfer activities. He said the format of transfer had changed from bank account transfer to the traditional way, by carrying the money across borders. They can easily escape security check because Thai borders with its neighboring countries are long; people can crossover without passing a checkpoint.

- Stop hunting down the red shirts, or malice will result in revenge;

- Stop the bomb attacks;

And oxymoron, coming from the mouth of an apparent moron.

Hello, knock-knock Try and connect A to B and come up with AB.

Nope guess not.

And before the usual suspects pipe in with

'The Gov is doing the bombing trying to keep the SOE.'

The reds have repeatedly tried to make the government look like they

are intentionally violent, and it amazes that they don't realize we see

through that patent charade. Maybe they don't care and are only

preaching to their choir.

I don't believe the Gov. would need more bombings to keep the SOE in place.

Of course if you want to vilify the gov. then keep the bombings coming

and try to spin it on to the gov. Same as they did in the big rally/riot they caused.

But the SOE does allow stricter measures to be taken against perpetrators, when caught. And considering that these people are willing to kill others I have no qualms at all letting them be sequestered in jail and not loose on the street to keep bombing. And it has no discernible effect on anyone else. Life goes on as before for 99 44/100% of Thailand citizens

At least one bright spot in this comedic article

"The source said security forces are particularly worried about political activities in October, including the October 7 event planned by the yellow shirts."

The yellow shirts are being recognized as a potential problem.

Something else from another honerable PTP member:

The government is gaining benefits from a recent spate of bomb attacks in Bangkok, according to the Puea Thai Party.

Mr Prompong said on Sunday the government claimed that it needed to enforce the state of emergency because of the bombings in the capital.

"The government is insincere and is addicted to power by using the emergency decree as a political tool," the opposition spokesman said.

The people had different ideas from the government since many sides had been urging the government to lift the emergency law unconditionally, he said.

"Bangkok is our capital and the decree has been enforced since April 7.

"There have been more losses than gains from the imposition because human rights violations are damaging the country's image towards foreign investors and tourists. The present situation is normal and there is no violence in the capital," he said.

Mr Prompong also questioned the security officials' performance as they could made one single arrest following many bomb attacks in Bangkok.

At least he has something right:

"Bangkok is our capital and the decree has been enforced since April 7.

However it would seem bobmings are normal and non-violant in the eyes of the PTP:

The present situation is normal and there is no violence in the capital," he said

The yellow shirts are being recognized as a potential problem.

Or as a potential target for the other side.

Which would make them likely go balistic.

I think every one is a potential target for the other side shirt color means nothing to them.. They showed no discrimination on who was in the hospital or who they threw bombs at in there recent camp out in Bangkok. Or for that matter who they deprived of a lively hood.

What it is and what it is not. Consider the definition:

e·mer·gen·cy/ɪˈmɜrthinsp.pngdʒənthinsp.pngsi/ dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif Show Spelled [ih-mur-juhthinsp.pngn-see] noun, plural -cies, adjective –noun 1. a sudden, urgent, usually unexpected occurrence or occasion requiring immediate action.

Perhaps this ordeal ought to be reclassified. Or how a/b this.... make all Thai people as well as foreigners living in Lack of Sanctions (LOS) responsible for actions/behaviors and give consequences when appropriate.

LOL ah but TIT.
