george
Trang mountain falls TRANG: -- A mountain subsided on Libong island early yesterday morning after four days of rain, causing most of the locals to fear the worst and brace for a post-tsunami earthquake. Naret Jitsucharitwong, the governor of Trang province, said Toe-Tae Mountain in Kantang district might have collapsed under the strain of the heavy rain. He said he had ordered an immediate probe to rule out the possibility that the disaster had been caused by an earthquake aftershock. Ong-art, the headman of Batu Putae village, said the collapse had occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning. No injuries were caused by the collapse because the 100-metre-tall mountain was located about a kilometre from the nearest inhabited area. Toe-Tae Mountain was located on the edge of Libong island, the largest island in Trang. The village headman said he had heard a rumbling noise similar to thunder at around 6.30am. Locals who witnessed the event told him the noise had come from the mountain. He reported the matter to the Mineral Resources Department. --The Nation 2005-07-
Galong
I imagine that this is purely a natural disaster as the entire island is covered with trees... some rubber trees, but mostly jungle. The villagers on Libong are a nice lot. I'm glad no one was hurt.
tso310
Is it another one of situations where all the trees have been removed ?

You can find the missing trees in Japan, but they are disguised as tables and chairs. One big tree is carefully disguised as a huge cabinet, and foot stool.
