Suspected insurgents arrested in southeastern Afghanistan

2010-10-03 12:31:38 GMT+7 (ICT)

KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- Afghan and coalition forces on Saturday arrested several suspected insurgents in southeastern Afghanistan and destroyed an ammunition cache found at the scene, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Sunday.

ISAF said intelligence information led a security force to a series of compounds in Mamu Kalay in Shinkai district of Zabul province while in pursuit of a senior Taliban leader. That leader is allegedly involved in the production, planning and execution of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along Highway 1 (also known as Ring Road).

The alliance said it used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compounds peacefully and then secured the area. "After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents," ISAF said, without confirming the number of arrests.

No injuries were reported during the operation.
