Thai Govt Blames Red Shirts For Deadly Bomb Attack

Abhisit, speaking on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Summit in Brussels, said he instructed for a speedy investigation into the explosion.

He said at the summit, he took the opportunity to explain the necessity of the state of emergency in Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The European leaders understood the precarious situation and did not voice objection to emergency rule, he said.

Convenient that as he's explaining to European leaders about the need to extend the state of emergency a bomb goes off in BKK. :whistling:

Convenient indeed. Outside of Thailnd the Democrat Party is seen as the polictical wing of the Junta

Apologies for injecting reality, but the European leaders (to which you are replying) don't express that, actually, they did just the opposite and voiced their support this week.

What a croc of $hit, ok lets blame the RED SHIRTS for everything.[/size]

There's no need when the list of their errant deeds is already a lengthy one in their own right.

Their confessed bombings of the Bhum Jai Thai Party headquarters, as well as others, is near the top of the list that is topped by burnings and shootings during May Mayhem 2010.

"It's clear that the bombers are Red Shirt people," Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon told AFP.

And how on earth does he come to that conclusion? very irresponsible statement, when its far to early to to know exactly what happened, it could of easily been a gas explosion but until an investigation is conducted he really should be proffessional in his position and refrain from making inaccurate statements until the proper information is made available to him.

The room where the blast occurred was rented by Samai Wongsuwan.

He is a known Red shirt with a warrant for his arrest re SoE offences.

He was killed in the blast, so probably accidental.

If they knew that he was a red shirt with a warrant and they knew where he rented a room, why did they not arrest him before he even had the chance to make a bomb? Something always smells fishy in Thailand. Maybe it's just the fish sauce.

Perhaps you missed the earlier post, but landlords of apartment buildings don't routinely get police lists of wanted fugitives. The police did not know he rented a room there beforehand. They found that out after the explosion.

Things can indeed seem "fishy", particularly when events are misunderstood.

so he rents the room legally, under his true name, as there was no warrant on him? It doesn't sound right.

also it's not known, whether he was killed in the blast, there is still no post-mortem

Are landlords of 5,000 baht a month (guesstimate, but the amount is really irrelevant) apartment buildings usually provided with lists of wanted criminals?

and while we haven't had an autopsy identification, "somebody" was blown to pieces in that room, while "somebody" else narrowly missed leaving an arm there, as well, and who exited the room shortly before the explosion.

Today brings confirmation that one of the "somebody's" was Red Shirter Samai Wongsuwan of the Love Chiang Mai 51 gang (shown on the left) who was one of the fatalities yesterday:

One of the Red Shirter's victims is 7 year-old Nitiphong Phoonoo (shown on the upper right corner in this montage of event photos), who remains hospitalized with a skull fracture.

Of course... why didn't I think of that - I was just saying to my wife's sister in the shower this morning, we should increase our stocks of nitrates and pipes, detonators and get our red shirts from the laundry! She responded, why don't others keep such essentials in their apartment buildings?
