Unless you asked for a specific date for your visa to start ( up to 90 days in advance of travel ) then the visa will begin from when the Eco processed it. The applicant will be issued with a 6 month visa and she may enter anytime as long as the visa is valid so the answer to your question is no she does not need to enter within 28 days of it being issued.

But remember that the visa is only valid for use until the expiry date on the visa. So, if the visa expires on 30 June 2011, for instance, and she does not travel until 15 June 2011, then she can only stay 15 days.

We have many visa experts who have never even applied for a visa or have applied for one many years ago Thai females are all experts yet the majority have never left Thailand  .

The obsession with a guaranteed visa is quite unbelievable here in Thailand all the other agents here ( Except TVE & Visa plus)do is charge them a deposit which covers the visa application fee then if they get the visa they hit them with a ridiculous fee.

Not posted or been on the forum for a while, I am no expert but I have had visa's granted and refused.

Anyway, the information supplied above is of course correct, I think the 28 days confusion is caused by SV applications.

When applying for ILR after 2 years, applicant has to show she has been resident for 2 years.

If she has arrived over a month after her visa start date then she will not be able to apply for ILR and will need to get her SV renewed (about £500)and then be able apply for her ILR.

So even with an SV its not neccessary to leave within 28 days but will save you money in 2 years time.

Despite telling my wife several times to think about when she wanted her visa granted, I think the moment took over her and she just said 'straight away' in case they changed their minds.

I think she only fully understood why I made her come within 2 weeks when other Thai wives she met since being in the UK got caught out when their ILR came up.

Obviously that is not relevant to the OP's question but hints at where confusion can start.

i was under the impression, you got 27 months on a sv???

You receive 27 months on a settlement visa you can enter at anytime however if you dont enter within 90 days of the visa being issued it could effect any future applications as you may not meet the specific qualifying period ( time spent in the UK ) to apply for ILR which is 2 years currently.

As already said you then may need an extension of FLR to meet the requirements which is another fee.
