Afghan governor Omar dies in mosque bombing

KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- An Afghan governor was killed on Friday afternoon when a bomb exploded at a mosque in northern Afghanistan, police said.

Kunduz governor Mohammad Omar was at the Shirkat mosque in neighboring Takhar province when a bomb exploded near him, police said, adding that many others were also killed. An exact number was not immediately available.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said it was aware of the incident. "We have initial reports of an explosion, but we do not have any additional data at this point," a spokesperson said.
