Gen. James Jones to resign as Obama's national security advisor

2010-10-08 21:26:06 GMT+7 (ICT)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- United States National Security Advisor General James Jones will be announcing his resignation on Friday, administration sources told BNO News.

The announcement will be made by President Barack Obama during a Rose Garden ceremony with Jones and deputy national security advisor Tom Donilon, who is expected to replace Jones later this month. The announcement will be made at 1 p.m. EDT.

The reason for Jones' departure was not immediately clear, but follows a series of resignations in the Obama administration. Dennis Blair resigned as Director of National Intelligence in May, followed by Robert Gates' announcement that he plans to retire next year. And earlier this month, Rahm Emanuel announced his departure as Obama's Chief of Staff.
