Your obligations vis-à-vis you and your homeowners association (HA) are defined by the agreement you signed when you purchased a property in that development. If their demand falls outside the scope of the agreement that you signed you will still need to pay the amount that the HA is allowed to collect for the expenses related to common charges for the community.

If you do not like the manner in which the HA operates you will need to remove enough board members to effectuate such changes that you desire in the way the HA operates.

If the HA is doing things outside the scope of your agreement you may need to commence litigation to have them cease and desist such actions. Conversely, if the HA feels like your failure to pay is a breach of the agreement you signed they may commence actions effecting your privileges in the community and it is possible they may commence litigation themselves against you to enforce the contract. *
