Three Fifteen Day Extensions At Mae Sai Allowed ?

Featured Replies

Sawasdee Khrup,

For health reasons (dog tired after getting over a recalcitrant recurrent bronchitis) do not feel ready to go to Vientiane this week, but have not required hospitalization, so have no paperwork from a hospital which I understand is the only kind of documentation that immigration Chiang Mai would accept :(

Tempted to post this on the Chiang Mai forum, but think the mods would move it here.

Some time ago was told that you could have a maximum of two consecutive 15 day extensions at Mae Sai. Wonder if anyone has been able to get three in the last months ?

Second, some time ago it was possible to go to Chiang Mai immigration, and get a one week extension for (was it about 1700 baht ?). Anyone know if that is still possible now ?

thanks ! ~o:37;

There is no official limit to the number of 15 day entries you can make.

There is no requirement to be in hospital, the requiremetn for an extension of stay based on medical reasons is that you are unfit to travel, but indeed would lik to see a note from a doctor. Immigration can have their own doctor have a look at you if they don't trust the doctor you use.

There is a 7 day extension, but immigration can ask for a ticket out of the country within thse 7 days. All extensions cost 1,900 baht, regardless of for how long.

You should also be aware that access to Burma could close at short or no notice as election time nears.
