So a few of us here after reading some of the threads on TV developed a quick definition list.

Definitions………

Farang: Alsoknown as “Douchebag” “ Scum Bag” “Foreigner Pig” “Pedophile” “Frenchie” “FatBastard”. This person is a foreigner visiting to take in a bit of Thailand’s culturalattractions however the primary goal of visit is to exploit women in bars. Typicallyhangs in high prostitution areas to the likes of NaNa, Jomtien, Pattaya, Phuket. The big fun is a weekend night at various strip joints getting drunk. Thesemen are usually over weight, unappealing, dress poorly, heavy drinker/smoker,rude and inconsiderate. Sadly this is the highest % of men visitors in Thailand givingthe “Visitor” and “Foreign Resident” a bad name. A great portion of these Farang’sfall in love with a bar girl, then get swindled out of a lot of money. Some mayeven marry not understanding what they have gotten into. After sobering up andrealizing what they have done, complain on the internet about how they gotrobbed. When approached about their behaviors usually deny it all.

Visitor: Honestvisitor of Thailand.Has researched the culture, Planned the trip to see major attractions but typicallystays off the tourist trail. Plans on a short stay 30 - 90 days. Wants to see ablend of “real day to day” Thailand, but not too much. This visitor believes in a small way that Thailand is nota 1st world country. Usually stays away from the bar girl scene. Most aretraveling with significant other. Ingeneral they respect the people and are good for the economy as they buy manyitems to take home. Enjoys the food. Might visit NaNa, Jomtien, Pattaya, Phuketareas by accident or were told of the activities and out of morbid curiosity go, but leave quickly and thoroughly disgusted.

Foreign Resident:This person has decided to call Thailandtheir home base. Has complete respect for the people and culture. Plans on lengthystay 1 to 30 years. Never complains as they look at what they left behind andfind Thailandto be a better place overall for the quality of life. Has integrated into thesystem freely. Does not frequent bars and stays away from NaNa, Jomtien,Pattaya, Phuket areas as they have absolutely no interest. These folks usuallyhave a job/retired. If they have met a significant other(Thai national) theyare not a bar girl. In typical Thai fashion this dating process takes a fewyears to develop to marriage and so on. They love the food, have a driverslicense and/or their own form of transportation. Have established Thai friends. With great confidence they call Thailand “Home”

I'm going to avoid a flame war and close down this troll topic right now.
