LR is corrupting CR2 imports (started with 2.4 and continues with 3.2). This seems to be random: sometimes a card is unaffected, other times, there is corruption, varying from one or two to a dozen or more. Sometimes it can be fixed in Develop, yet revert to corruption back in Library. In PhotoShop, the image is corrected to an uncorrupted state. Can anyone help to diagnose the cause(s)? Is it LR or my operating system?

hi.

I have used LR from the beginning with no probs like this.

I am not sure what you have tried so far .Maybe try the following :

1) Could this be card related ? format the card(s)or if you have a lot of cards , try and identify if its one particular card / sector ?

2) LR. Maybe uninstall and download a newer version of LR ( trial version ) and try with this. If its not original copy that may be the problem. Your Software may be corrupted ?

3) What OS do you have ?

4) Download a new OS Codec for Raw files ?

Best of luck.

The corruption started a year ago with 2.4. Before then, everything was fine. It all started when I imported my first images from a new Sandisk 4GB CF; something happened with that, that upset the system.

I have 4 cards, all same Sandisk 2Gb CFs, all same age, plus the newer one, mentioned above. I also use 2 bodies. Doesn't seem to be any consistency with the corruption, as regards cards or body used. I thought it was the card reader, so bought a new one last month: same problem. I only use RAW images, CR2 in my case.

Fully up to date with LR. Did just that last week: completely ininstalled LR, removing everything that I could find connected with it. Installed 3.2: corruption.

3) What OS do you have ?

Mac Snow Leopard (all up to date). Just to add to the confusion, I use LR on 2 Mac laptops: the corruption happens on both. So if it's an OS issue, this has happened, simultaneously, on 2 machines (admittedly they're the same age, but different types).

4) Download a new OS Codec for Raw files ?

My Camera Raw is up to date, if that's what you mean by Codecs.

Added info: sometimes the corruption can be rectified in LR's Develop module. Revert back to Library, and corruption returns. Camera Raw seems to remove it. A friend's RAW images (from a NIkon and Ricoh) all imported fine. Maybe that was just a coincidence.

Hi ,

ouch , the magic word here may be Mac ! haha.

I did some background research for the problem and found that you are already asking the relevant questions on LR forums which seem the way to go !

Is this compatability issues with LR and the MAC?

I know you may not want to hear this but maybe Aperture is the way to go :)

LR runs fine on a Mac.

What happens if you import the images into a new catalog?

LR runs fine on a Mac.

I've been running LR since LR1 and never had any problems, until I used that 4GB card a year ago with LR2.4.

What happens if you import the images into a new catalog?

Sorry, how do I do this?

NB Last week I completely uninstalled everything connected with LR on my machine; even used AppZapper to pull out any attached files. Emptied all catalogues etc. too. As far as I was concerned, my machine was a LR virgin. Then installed LR3.2; corruption continues.

NBB Have just returned from the local Apple dealer, who connected machines up to Apple in Cupertino for a diagnostic check. According to Apple my machines are healthy (no RAM probs).

NBBB Yesterday I bought a new CF card (Sandisk 4GB). Filled it up with 243 RAWs. Imported them into LR direct from card: 21 corrupted; except for 3, most were solid blocks of yellow, varying from about 5% to 95% of image area. Also copied the images on to my Desk Top. Erased all images in LR (from disk) and emptied LR's cache too; imported images from DT into LR: no corruption. (Well, no corruption at the moment. Who knows what will happen to them tomorrow.)

Any thoughts?

File/New Catalog

Then import the images into this (empty) catalog. Although it sounds like you have already started with empty catalogs and no joy. Try a different card reader? Try some shots taken by another camera? Sorry, clutching at straws here!

The other week I started a new catalogue (inserted a no. 1 on existing cat, which forced LR to start a new one): same same.

Bought a new card reader 2 weeks ago: same same.

1. RAWs imported from a friend's Nikon and Ricoh came in fine.

2. I also have a Panasonic Lumix: on my last import (all RAWs) there were 3 corruptions, including a narrow strip from another image.
