Chinese official says China opposes sanctions against Iran

2010-10-19 05:53:56 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- A Chinese official on Monday said that China opposes the adoption of sanctions against Iran as it believes that boycotts do not solve anything, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The Deputy Head of China's Youth Federation He Junke met in Tehran with the Head of Iran's National Youth Organization Mehrdad Bazrpash in order to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between both nations.

"China is always opposed to sanctions against Iran. The sanctions method does not help settle the problems as China developed its defense industry in time of sanctions," He said.

Bazrpash downplayed the effects of the sanctions and assured that such boycotts have indeed provided the ground for further progress in Iran.

The Chinese official added that no power can stop Iran's progress and reiterated that all nations should be able to decide which path to take towards growth and progress, despite other countries' opinions and opposition.

Iran is under four rounds of United Nations Security Council sanctions for ignoring calls, led by the United States, to stop its uranium enrichment. Bazrpash said that the demands are politically tainted and illogical as Iran has the right of enriching uranium.

The United States has lately pressed on international states to comply with the sanctions that target Iranian energy and banking sectors. In recent weeks, major energy companies have withdrawn from its business relations with Tehran due to fear of further U.S.-UN sanctions.
