FarangBuddha
Weather will be very nice in Dec.-Jan. but not usually much surf in and around Phuket. Better to head on down to Bali...surfing is a big thing down there...not so much in Thailand.

BangTaoBoy
Why don't you pop in and see the the bloke who owns the surf shop in Cherng Telay. I've only spoken to him very briefly but he seems nice. He was surfing at Layan beach when I bumped in to him. Anything that's worth knowing about local conditions, I'm guessing he'll know. GoodKarma
Dec January is flat. Surf season is typically from April-ish to November-ish.(low season) With some odd days in between. Phuket is a nice place to learn to surf though in the low season.
LeungKen
It might be worth asking this same question to the Phuket Boardriders Club http://www.phuketboardriders.com/ A mate of mine, Robbo, often surfs the reef at Nai Yang, but suggest you ask the locals first. Cheers & Good Luck
