At least 3 killed, 22 wounded in Pakistan mosque bombing

2010-10-22 20:03:46 GMT+7 (ICT)

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least 3 people were killed and 22 were wounded after bomb was triggered at a mosque near Peshawar, located in the northern region of Pakistan, local media reported Friday.

The explosion was presumably remote-controlled, and targeted worshippers from the Pashta Khara Mosque, which is located in a crowded neighborhood in the outskirts of Peshawar, following their Friday prayers.

The injured were rushed to the Hayatabad Medical Complex, whose officials confirmed the three deaths. Most of the wounded, however, suffered only minor injuries.

The U.S. Embassy in Pakistan strongly condemned the bombing, adding that the targeting of worshippers leaving Friday prayers at a mosque makes the terrorist attack particularly reprehensible.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and hope for the quick recovery of those injured.  The United States will continue to support the people of Pakistan as they strive to secure a future of peace free from violence and intimidation." the U.S. Embassy said.

Local authorities cordoned off the area as investigations are ongoing.
