Featured Replies

If legally married (with papers) to thai women, do you still need a work permit to work in thailand to support her...have been in thailand over three years as expat with non img visa now...some say yes...some say no...so not sure

in other words...is there any way around having to have work permit to work on your own or to help her in a business up front? i know amount coming in or in bank annually goes down to 400,000 baht from current stand alone 800,000 requirement with just non img...thanks.

"Do you still need work permit in Thailand to support her...?" ...Guess that depends on whether or not the credit card is in her name or yours... :o:D:D

The answer is a resounding YES.

Not only is it yes but your information on 800k requirement applies only to retirements of those over 50. The support Thai wife is the lower 400k but you must have a work permit if money is local or it must be proven to come from overseas. Believe you have an advantage in that you can obtain extensions of stay at a lower wage level than the normal nationality requirement. But any work always requires a work permit.

it is most definately yes.

even if you have permanent residency, you still need a work permit.

it is not until you obtain thai citizenship that you dont require a work permit.
