MIAMI (BNO NEWS) -- Tropical storm Shary formed on Thursday night near Bermuda, meteorologists said, prompting warnings for the British overseas territory.

Tropical storm Shary formed just before 11:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday (0300 UTC Friday) about 565 kilometers (350 miles) south of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/hr (40 mph).

As of 8 a.m. EDT (1200 UTC), Shary was located 355 kilometers (220 miles) south-southwest of Bermuda with no change in intensity. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the islands.

Shary is moving toward the northwest near 30 km/hr (18 mph). A turn toward the north with a decrease in forward speed is expected later on Friday followed by a turn toward the northeast on Friday night. On the forecast track, the center of Shary is expected to pass near or to the east of Bermuda during the next hours.

Some strengthening is forecast on Friday, with weakening likely over the weekend.

The storm is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 1 to 3 inches over the islands.
