Govt destroys counterfeit products

BANGKOK: -- The Thai government today destroyed counterfeit products, worth more than Bt30 million.

The 'brand name' pirated products included watches, footwares, women's bags and electric games, according to Director-General of the Customs Department Sathit Limpongpan.

The goods were seized from violators of intellectual property rights in a series of government tough crackdowns this year, he disclosed.

Mr. Sathit presided over a ceremony to destroy the counterfeit products at the Customs Department.

He, however, told journalists witnessing the event that the number of pirated goods had dropped so far this year due to the government's decisive suppressions, including those imported ones.

"Local customs officials are closely monitoring imported computers and electronic products and will always thoroughly check to prevent any pirated products", he said.
