Tv Reception/Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi

I am in the process of moving household, furniture, etc to Thailand....as part of the move if i bring televisions purchased in UK/Ireland will they function in Thailand or is the frequency different :jap: .confused.gif Thanks

Probably better in Technology (I don't often move topics OUT of the Pub :) )

Anyway, unless they're really high end kit I'd be tempted to leave the TVs at home, prices are falling all the time so it may be worth buying new here (and thus avoiding the issue of Thai customs).

Whilst Thailand is PAL (like the UK) your UK TVs will lack the VHF tuners needed for off-air reception although they'll work just fine with a satellite receiver or DVD player. If they have SCART connectors bring some SCART to RCA leads, they're common as hens teeth here.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

The UK is PAL I, Thailand is PAL B. You will probably get a picture but no sound. You could get the receiver retuned but quite honestly you would be better off buying one here. You get a new TV with a guarantee which hasn't been bashed about. One has to consider the liklihood of items damaged in transit.

What kind of TV is it?

If it's LCD/Plasma it'll function just fine. These digital TVs supports multiple TV standards and usually supports both PAL and NTSC.

If it's a fairly modern CRT TV it'll most likely also be able to accept any PAL signal.

In fact, a lot of newer CRT TV's will also be able to receive NTSC and PAL.

Thailand does not use digital TV broadcasting and uses both VHF and UHF frequencies. A UK set could be a monitor but not used for OTA reception without modification.

Read recently they expect TV prices to fall 25% by the holiday season in the US.. Cut throat..

Got my eye on the new LED series 7 samsung but its still high end pricing.
