Republican Governors Association congratulates Georgia Governor-elect Nathan Deal

ATLANTA (BNO NEWS) -- The Republican Governors Association on late Tuesday evening congratulated Nathan Deal on winning the Georgia gubernatorial election, defeating Democrat Roy Barnes.

With approximately 95 percent of the results in, Deal was leading the election results with 53 percent. His opponent Barnes, who served as Governor of Georgia from January 1999 to January 2003, received 43 percent of the vote.

"While beating Roy Barnes the second time wasn’t as much fun as it was the first time, it mattered just as much," said Republican Governors Association (RGA) Executive Director Nick Ayers. "His policies and ideas are poison to the people of Georgia. Nathan Deal will govern Georgia with conservative values and lead us forward to an even brighter future. But, we welcome Roy to run again in four more years."

The Republican Governors Association was a key investor in Nathan Deal's victory, spending a total of $6.5 million on the race. The RGA ran 10 TV ads and spent $225,000 online and gave $1 million to the state party helping to finance both mail and TV ads.
