Dutch Foreign Minister Rosenthal to meet with NATO's Rasmussen

2010-11-08 23:09:35 GMT+7 (ICT)

BRUSSELS (BNO NEWS) -- Dutch Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal will meet with NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Tuesday, the alliance announced on Monday.

It will be the first official meeting between a representative of the newly formed Dutch coalition government and Rasmussen. The new government was installed by Queen Beatrix on October 14 and is being led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Few details about Tuesday's meeting was released by NATO but the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan is expected to be on the agenda. The previous Dutch government, led by then-Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, toppled over a NATO request to extend the country's mission in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province.

Since the previous government collapsed in February, Dutch troops have withdrawn from Afghanistan. However, the new Dutch government may consider a new mission if asked.
