China and Italy launch strategic innovative alliance to impulse exchange and research

ROME, ITALY (BNO NEWS) -- China and Italy on Monday announced the launch of a strategic innovative alliance aimed at impulsing technological exchange and research in various fields such as energy, e-government and health, the Chinese state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The launch was made at the Italy-China Innovation Forum which was the first major event for the one-year celebrations of the Chinese Culture Year in Italy which marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The forum was a window for Chinese and Italian entrepreneurs to form contacts for future alliances and also mark the way for a strengthened bilateral relationship. During the forum it was remarked the need for a joint cooperation in innovation and technology.

China and Italy agreed that both nations are in search of expanding their cooperation on health, e-government, renewable energy, energy efficiency, high-quality design, information and communication technology (ICT).

Italian Innovation Minister Renato Brunetta, one of the organizers of the forum, proposed to launch an innovation alliance that benefit both nations. Such joint effort will allow direct access to services on internet and simplify administrative procedures as well.

Brunetta also announced an agreement between Italy's Innovation Agency and China's Science and Technology Commission aimed at creating an Italy-China center for technological transfer that will promote contacts between scientific parks, technological districts and small enterprises of both countries.

The minister highlighted that the 250 Italian innovation projects showed at the Shangai Expo, represented the importance for Italian small and medium businesses to exchange knowledge and technology with Chinese companies.

"We can be privileged partners in such strategic areas because we all know that only those countries able to master technology will secure for themselves a long-standing economic growth and a sustainable and wide-spread well-being," said Confindustria's deputy president Diana Bracco.

Cofindustria is one of the Italian companies participating in the forum. Bracco added that its company was looking forward to impulse cooperation and trade with China especially in the fields of innovation and research.

The Italy-China Innovation Forum was organized by Brunetta and Wan Gang, Chinese Minister for Science and Technology. Around 250 Italian industrials and 100 Chinese businessmen and institution representatives participated in the meeting.

The forum was the first event listed in the protocol signed during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Rome in October to boost bilateral ties. The protocol also proposed the creation of the Italy-China center for high-quality design.
